  Betty's Story - Life After Stroke  
  • Here I was taught to walk again, also regain some of my speech. After a further 8 weeks I was released to the care of my husband at home.

  • Eight years later, I have retained a fair amount of my speech, at least enough to make limited conversation.

  • I'm completely paralysed down my right side.

  • The morning of January 21st 1994, when I was 66 years old, my husband found me lying on top of the bed.
  • I was taken to Flinders Medical Centre, spending 3 weeks there. I was then transferred to Daws Road Hospital Rehabilitation Centre.
  • So I taught myself to write with my left hand.
