Malcolm’s Story
I am 73 years old and originally from the UK. I moved to Australia about 4 years ago.
I had a stroke in 2017, and again in 2019, resulting in aphasia.
I am an avid cyclist.
I volunteer every week at Cummins house in Novar Gardens tending to the garden and anything else they need done. I mow the lawns using the ride on mower.
I enjoy getting out and about and talking to people.
I live with my daughter, son-in-law and grandchildren. I also have another daughter who lives nearby who I visit on my bike.
I ride my bike to the Hove talkback group weekly and enjoy the opportunity to socialise and talk about different topics. I like speaking to the nice people as it helps me a lot, and I like how everyone has a laugh and can speak honestly.
I have recently developed an interest in bird watching and have been caring for baby birds at my volunteer job. I go in three times a week to check on the canaries.
I have two dogs that I take out walking.
I attend probus group regularly.
Mostly, I just want to continue getting out and about and talking to people. I don’t want to sit on my own looking at a TV all day.
The more I can talk the better. I like talking to anybody and I’m a friendly person.
